One night, after Ashley had been missing for over 24 hours, her mother called Ashley. She suspected that something was wrong. Her youngest daughter, Casey, had not heard from her. She texted her, but she never replied.
It was a Friday night. Ashley Reeves had not returned home after curfew. Her parents had been worried about her safety, but they decided to take a plea deal.
It was at that moment that police found her in the woods. She had hundreds of insect bites covering her body. She had lost her memory, but she survived three attempts to strangle her. She was in a coma for more than 30 hours. She was eventually transferred to the hospital.

For a while, the authorities were convinced that she had escaped the scene of the crime. Using high tech equipment, detectives traced her whereabouts back to the town of Belleville, Illinois. They even went as far as to find her in the woods, but her remains were not found. Eventually, her parents agreed to take the bait and settle on a plea deal.

The story started when Ashley Reeves was 17 years old. She was dating a gym instructor named Sam Shelton. During their relationship, Reeves was sexually assaulted by Sam.
After the attack, Reeves was left in the woods for 30 hours. She was found with a broken neck and concussion. She was then transported to the hospital. Doctors told her that she was going to die. But she had survived two strangulation attempts.

She began volunteering at a violence prevention center.
The day she went missing, Ashley’s mother was preparing to take her daughter to a job interview in Fairview Heights, Illinois. She asked her daughter if she had heard from her. Her daughter told her she had an interview, but didn’t answer. She told her to come back later that night at 10:30pm.
That night, she had a date with a friend. When her friend texted her at 5 p.m., Ashley didn’t respond. She also forgot to put her cellphone in her purse. She didn’t even notice the phone ringing.
